Hello!  My name is Jim Fleener and I'm an Austin area Chess Instructor who is available to teach both group and private chess lessons to children (and adults) of all ages.  Beginners are especially welcome!

I've been teaching chess full time for over thirteen years and I'm certified by the United States Chess Federation as a Chess Coach and Club Tournament Director.  In addition to providing private tutoring, I also teach at public and private schools and home school co-ops.

I have tutored both adults and children in English, math, programming and software applications.  I've volunteered with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and I'm a member of the United States Chess Federation, the Texas Chess Association, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and the Writer’s League of Texas.  I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from UT San Antonio and have completed two years of study in the School of Social Work at UT Austin.

I am the Chess Instructor for the following programs:

* St. Francis School Chess Class
* Bryker Woods Elementary Chess Class

I have also taught at the following schools:

* Robert E. Lee Elementary
* Brushy Creek Elementary
* Laurel Mountain Elementary
* Casis Elementary
* Kirby Hall School
* One Day Academy

I also provide private chess lessons in the Arboretum area in Northwest Austin.

While emphasizing fun and learning, I use each teaching opportunity to increase
the self-confidence of my students through positive reinforcement.
